Sorry, Anna...I meant to make the due date as Saturday.
Good job, Josh and Emma. Emma are you personally aware of any boys or men who have been impacted by anti-male bias?
We will read and respond to “BIAS” for the next while. I’ll bring in videos and other sources to complement the topics. I may assign an essay as a major project.

Please read Chapter 9 “Targeting Men”. As before, post at
least a 300 word response. What do you think is Goldberg’s main point about
media bias in this chapter? Explain how you think one or more examples he uses
support the point.
In your experience, are you aware of negative stereotypes of males-- boys and men?

Chapter Nine – Targeting Men
The main point Goldberg is trying to make in this chapter of Bias is that most people think women are oppressed in the world. The truth is, its pretty much the other way around. Most people will bring up that women get paid less in the workforce. This statistic only appears like this because men typically occupy higher paying jobs like surgeons and engineers. They also go for the less convenient jobs like mining, oil rigs, or occupations with longer commuting. Putting this fact aside, even if women did get paid sixty cents on the dollar a man makes, why wouldn’t everyone higher women? It would cost less. On top of this, Goldberg brings up an interesting event that happened in Los Angeles. A woman could file for child support on essentially any man she wanted and if they did not respond to the court order in thirty days, they had to pay. Many of these ‘convicted’ men, for lack of a better word, didn’t even receive the letter in those thirty days. The ones who did couldn’t even prove they weren’t the father of the child because of the bias of the court. They would have scientific, factual evidence that the court would reject. Furthermore, bias in the media shows us that you are allowed to say things that bash men, but if you dare bash women, to the gallows you go. Goldberg brings up a reporter that asked a ball player, “Who had the biggest wood on the team?” Goldberg then brought up if the player then asked who has the biggest ‘ta-tas’, he would literally be socially executed.
I’m not sure how strong the liberal bias is here. It’s more just like most liberals support feminism or are neutral with it. With conservatives, many of them are too scared to approach the controversial topic. The sad thing is, the public doesn’t know anything about this issue because the media only shows what supports women. The liberal bias in this chapter is at one hundred percent.
In my experience, I am definitely aware of the bias against men in today’s world. As you probably know about me, I’m not afraid to speak up on controversial or ‘suicide’ subjects. With feminism, its not worth to argue anymore, because they don’t even know who their enemy is. No matter what you say, men are wrong. All feminism includes is hatred towards men. Many of my female ‘friends’ (not really friends but for the sake of it) on Instagram constantly post about how women are oppressed and suffering in the world. The thing though is that they are so embroiled in making their rights that they don’t realise the only -ism we need right now is rights for men. (There is no word for that which is pathetic).
***Sorry for the long paper***
Chapter9 – Targeting Men
I think that the point Goldberg is making subconsciously is that some people can be so blind to the world around them, I think that he is trying to say that they are being blind on purpose, but I would like to think the best of people. When they grab hold of an idea, they stick with it, and are so stubborn that they can’t even see that they are being irrational. Goldberg uses many situations to prove his point. Under the point I said before, I also think that there is another point that is far more obvious but not the root of the problem in my opinion. This underlying point is that the pendulum has swung so far in the recent decades, that not only are women being treated better than they were, but they are being treated better than men. Two of the most interesting examples that Goldberg uses to prove his own point is a woman’s behaviour and the government’s new view of men. When he speaks of a woman’s behaviour, he highlights many instances where a news reporter would ask lewd questions or make lewd statements either to a man or about a man. Goldberg emphasizes that if a man were to ask or say the equivalent of that statement they would be immediately tagged as an imbecile. However, when a woman says it about a man, it is just let off as a joke and “no harm done”. The second example he uses to prove his point is the government’s new view of men. He shows this in the example of child support, how the government will force people who have no relation to a child, to pay thousands of dollars for them just because the mother came up with their name in order to get free money. In my opinion the point that Goldberg made about men and women bias is not very serious. I think that the situation is serious but not his point. I think that the more serious presence in this situation is the presence of selfishness. Because of the presence of this sin, the situation has become desperate, but I think that the situation does not need to be fixed, the root of the situation, selfishness, needs to be fixed. I think we have seen the consequences of the presence of selfishness and I think they will only get worse.
Chapter 9 – Review
Targeting Men
I think this chapter is stressing the fact that women are being oppressed in the world. Although, I believe it is quite contrary. I believe that really the men are being oppressed because people believe women are being oppressed. I take this opinion because the world automatically thinks –man superior, woman inferior—and this “oppression” has triggered feminists around the world to speak out for women’s rights. But while these individuals speak out, they are themselves, oppressing and putting out a bad image of men. Now, they have sent out a stereotype oppressing all males. The stereotype lifts all men to have power and privileged, but this is not true. “Some work in corner offices on the fiftieth floor, and some work in coal mines and fast food restaurants.” (Pg. 135) We must remember the other half of the population, trying to provide for themselves and their families. The stereotype moves all to believe that the accused rapist is guilty, without cause to believe. It moves all to believe that the perpetrator of a crime is ALWAYS males. Moreover, people are often scared to offend women and feminists. It is a how dare you act that you would comment and oppose these feminists. As Sam Donaldson says, “I’ve been very careful about offending women, I’ll challenge presidents any day, but taking on half the world is asking too much.” The liberal bias in this chapter is huge. Most of the world these days are attacking men, for literally nothing, and they have such a bad connotation about them sometimes that it is almost ridiculous. It has come to the fact that a judge would rather write of a court hearing, than have to fight a feminist. (Or a woman) We must stand strong in the truth and know that the woman is called to be submissive to the man, and that God has made the man first and slightly in more control over the woman. (This can also often be taken out of context so we must be careful to read the Word carefully
I do personally know some men who have been biased because they are white, male, and straight. Don't get me wrong, I think that the bias is horrible, but I also think that we are not going to fix that be addressing it specifically, we need to address it at the root of the problem.
Sorry I didn't actually read the last part of the question, but yes I do know of some males who have been impacted by this bias. Also some females who are adamantly for it.
